I started over again at the beginning of August...working on the same pattern...but it's a long sleeved sweater for my sister....and am now half way up the second sleeve...so soon be finished.
I have now finished the top I told you about last time...pictures below. I entered it in a small village show and won first prize for it.

I thought I had better write something to update you on the knitting I am doing for my sister.
Well, the pattern is for 4ply, but I have found a DK yarn which is knitting up very much like 4ply. It is HAYFIELD Fiesta double knitting....100gr balls with a good yardage of 262yds/240m. It is 50% acrylic and 50% bamboo sourced viscose. A beautiful yarn....sooooo soft! Using 3.50mm circular needles as I have converted the pattern to knit in the round......not so much boring sewing up then. Started knitting, and a third of the way up, I realised that there was no way the garment would fit a 42" chest......hadn't got the heart to rip it back.......as this yarn was very slow to gain length.....so I have now converted this into a "top" for me. So when this is finished I will start all over again..doing it much bigger. Luckily I have managed to buy more yarn of same colour and dye number from Ebay, so will have plenty of yarn. At the same time I have been knitting a cardigan for myself...almost finished now. Photos and more details to follow soon...when I have a spare non knitting moment. I've now finished knitting this jacket for my sister. It was quite an old pattern, but I found it easy and it knitted up quickly in about 3 weeks.
The yarn is an acrylic aran weight, which I purchased online from my favourite knitting yarn site. My sister has also picked out another pattern for a sweater, so I must now search for a suitable yarn, as it is a 4ply pattern. .......more news on that, next time. Photo below of jacket. I have 2 grandaughters aged 7 years, so I have knit them ponchos.
I used an Aran yarn ...Stylecraft Life...but to get the thickness, I used it 3 stranded. Now my sister wants a jacket.....she has chosen a pattern, so that's my next project. Pic of ponchos below. Hi again,
Just before Christmas, I took a 3 week holiday in North Cyprus. Of course I took my needles and some yarn with me. This is what I managed to knit, while in the bar lounge in the evenings. I found the pattern in a collection of old patterns that my sister was throwing out.....I adapted the style a bit, so it's really my own design. I used a chunky cotton yarn, so that is why it knitted up so quickly. I will copy out the pattern and put it on another page, in the next few days. Last week I decided to update my knitting needles.
I already have most sizes, but they are a mixture of plastic and metal ones and also a variety of lengths. I find that moving the stitches is easier on metal needles, so I researched the net for some good and reasonably priced metal ones. Found some on Ebay, but I'm glad I didn't jump in quickly to order them, as I found the same ones elsewhere, that were cheaper. So I ordered a mixture of straight and circular needles....40cm long straight ones...and 150cm length circular ones. Do you like to have a nice looking edge on your knitting?
I get a nice neat edge when I always slip the first stitch purlwise at the beginning of the row......... then knit the last stitch in the row. What a difference it makes from the edge when you just knit or purl the first and last stitch according to your pattern. See below. Top left is slip and knit end stiches and top right is all knit or purl end stitches. Under.... shows the edges. Your knitting tends to lay out nicely with the neat edge..whereas it seems to pull in slightly when you knit/purl all stitches. At the moment, I am working on a hoodie jacket for a grandson.
I'm using a chunky acrylic yarn, so it's knitting up pretty quickly. Garter rib stitch is the pattern...worked as follows....... Multiple of 4 stitches +2 required Row 1:- (Rt side) *P2, K2; repeat from * to last 2 stitches, P2. Row 2:- All Purl. A new blog starts today.
I am hoping that someone may see this. This site has been online for some time now, but is far from finished.......as I have been just too busy KNITTING! When you have grandchildren, there is always someone to knit for. Anyway, I will now try to post something here as often as possible......and I will also try to add more content. |
